Having Silhouette Cameo blade problems? You’re not the only one! Read on for our suggestions…
The Silhouette CAMEO has a lot of great things going for it – easy to use, ability for intricate cuts and a multi-media machine. However, there seems to be growing concern with the quality of the blades, complaints that out-of-the-box they don’t cut properly. If you are experiencing blade problems read on to see if you have a “user error” issue, or a defective blade. You can find Blade and other information in this Silhouette CAMEO blade not cutting right guide.
First thing is to make sure the sheath is in place correctly, you should hear a definite “snap” when the blade is in the holder correctly. You can also see how it’s done on this YouTube video by GingerCupcakeCards.
Check the lock level, which if not locked correctly isn’t providing enough pressure. While holding the lever, twist and push to fully seat the blade – the blade’s fin should be pointing forward in the six o’clock position.
Be sure your blade is clean of debris from adhesive, vinyl and fuzz. Also check around the blade housing, use a pin to slip in around the blade.
Try the “Double-cut” function in the Silhouette Studio Software.
Check the “packet size” which is the amount of information sent to the machine. While the highest setting, 3000, would seem to be a good thing, the downside of it is that it causes skipping and inconsistencies in the cuts. Current suggestions have the setting at 500; there is hope an update will patch the issue.
